Merrill is the place my wife and I consider home. It’s where we both grew up, where much of our family is, and the community we’re proud to be a part of today. I’m a graduate of Merrill High School and went on to earn my Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan Technological University. In addition to owning Copper Mine Laser Design LLC, I work as an Engineering Manager for a local business here in Merrill, Wisconsin.
Laser cutting and engraving had been an interest of mine for years. I always dreamed of owning a laser and starting a business, but I honestly thought it would be something I pursued as a retirement hobby someday. A dear friend encouraged me to stop waiting and give it a try.
That encouragement helped turn an idea into reality, and in June 2022, Copper Mine Laser Design LLC was born right here in Merrill, Wisconsin.
Since then, Copper Mine has grown into a local laser cutting and engraving business serving Merrill, Central Wisconsin, and beyond. I’ve had the opportunity to work with individuals, businesses, manufacturers, schools, organizations, farms, and more. Projects have ranged from personalized gifts and awards to business signage, industrial identification, reverse-engraved control panels, custom parts, laser-cut components, and plenty of unique projects in between.
The name Copper Mine Laser Design LLC is also personal to us.
My wife and I have always had a love for Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, an area with a long history of copper mining. I attended Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Michigan, and my wife and I later spent several years living in Kingsford, Michigan.
The U.P. holds a lot of great memories for us and continues to be a special place for our family. When it came time to name the business, Copper Mine Laser Design LLC felt like the perfect way to pay tribute to a place that has played such a meaningful role in our lives.
My background in mechanical engineering has naturally carried over into Copper Mine Laser Design. I enjoy the creative side of custom laser engraving and laser cutting, but I also enjoy the technical challenges—the measurements, materials, precision, problem-solving, and figuring out how to turn a customer's idea into a finished product.
Whether I’m creating a one-of-a-kind personalized gift or helping a local manufacturer solve an identification or labeling need, I approach every project with the same goal: find the right solution and create something I’m proud to put the Copper Mine Laser Design LLC name on.
I’m grateful for how much Copper Mine Laser Design LLC has grown since 2022 and for the support we’ve received from Merrill and communities throughout Central Wisconsin. What started as a dream for “someday” has turned into a business I’m proud to be building right here in the community we call home.
